Rodney the Raindrop

Follow one raindrop all the way around the world

A gentle learning game for children aged 2 to 6. Rodney reads everything aloud, so little ones can play before they can read.

What they learn

The water cycle, one adventure at a time

Every adventure follows Rodney through a real stage of the water cycle. Children see it, hear it explained in simple words, then play a little game about it.

  1. ☀️

    Evaporation

The sun warms the sea and Rodney floats up into the sky.

    “Up, up, up I go!”
  2. ☁️

    Condensation

Rodney meets other drops and they cuddle up into a cloud.

    “Hello, friends!”
  3. 🌧️

    Precipitation

The cloud gets heavy and Rodney falls as rain, snow, mist or hail.

    “Drip, drip, DROP!”
  4. 🌊

    Collection

He trickles into rivers, lakes and the sea, ready to go round again.

    “Splash! Home again.”

Older children (5–6) get extra facts and harder questions. Younger ones (2–4) get shorter, simpler versions of the same stories.

Adventures

Spin the globe, pick a flag, and off they go

Rodney lands at real places and meets the animals who live there. Each finished adventure unlocks that country's stickers.

Made to be safe, calm and in your control

Rodney is built for small children, so the grown-up parts sit behind a maths question only an adult can answer.

No adverts, no chat

Your child never sees an advert or a link out of the game, and nobody can message them.

Break reminders that mean it

Set a time for each child. When it's up, Rodney asks for a stretch and a drink of water, play pauses for 5 minutes, and a grown-up decides whether to carry on.

A profile for every child

Each child has their own explorer, progress, stickers and break time, with easier or harder content for ages 2–4 and 5–6.

Gifts with a note from you

Reward tidying up or a brave dentist visit with raindrops and a message that Rodney reads out loud.

Family sync

Turn on a family code and progress follows your children to your other phones and tablets.

Photos stay at home

Profile photos never leave your device. Play statistics are anonymous and you can switch them off.

Questions

Good to know

Does my child need to be able to read?

No. Rodney reads every instruction and story aloud, and you can tap the speaker to hear it again. The reading games start with single letter sounds.

What do I need to play?

Any up-to-date phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. There's nothing to download, and you can add Rodney to your home screen like an app.

Is it really free?

Yes. All adventures and games are free. Raindrops, sticker packs and the Club are optional and only available to grown-ups behind the maths question.

Can I limit screen time?

Yes. Choose a break time for each child in the Grown-ups area: 15, 20, 30, 45 minutes or an hour. When it's reached, play stops for 5 minutes and needs a grown-up's OK to continue.

What do you do with my family's information?

As little as possible. There are no accounts and no adverts. Family sync is optional, and the play statistics are anonymous. Our Privacy Policy explains everything in plain English.

Will there be more adventures?

We're working on more places and stories, and new adventures will be free for everyone.
